Five for Friday

It's taken awhile, but it has finally gotten super hot here. My car said it was 102 around noon today meaning it has felt almost too hot to even go to the swimming pool. We've had storms, or threats of storms, most afternoons. Which works out fine as we tend to stay busy in the mornings, come home to eat lunch and take naps and then lay around or play in the neighborhood in the afternoons. A few highlights from the week...

1. Still loving our bikes!

One evening we went for a bike ride after supper, and Duncan rode behind me for the first time! He has really good balance (I guess it's all those physical therapy exercises on the big exercise ball). He also spent most of the ride playing with the back of my shirt which really tickled. Look at this smile!

And speaking of PT, look what this little guy is doing in the locomotion category - up on all fours (with some help) but can hold it all on his own.

2. Planes & trains.

One morning we met some friends at the airplane park. The heat and sun don't seem to phase Caroline at all. Duncan is happy as long as the sun isn't in his eyes.

After the park we headed to the bookstore and made a stop at the train table. I cannot even begin to describe the hard work that has gotten Duncan to the point where he is sitting in the chair, reaching for toys and squealing in protest when Caroline tried to get the train from him. This is the power of prayer and lots and lots of therapy!

3. Pool shenanigans continue...

Caroline likes to be thrown in the air (she says "go high" when she wants to be tossed up) and she loves to jump off the edge into my arms. A running start is her favorite until the life guard fusses at her :-) Life jackets are a must. Duncan loves to kick and splash. And he loves Ollie's water ball.

Caroline is also obsessed with sunscreen (and lotion). She grabbed the bottle - apparently I didn't screw the top on tight enough - and ended up looking like she'd applied war paint. This was on top of a thick layer I'd already applied.

4. Goals & Globes (a.k.a. Green Ball)

We completed the library's Summer Reading Program for babies and turned in our checklist this week after Bouncing Babies. Duncan was super proud to pick out our board book prize.

At the far end of the library's lobby there is a cafe and this huge rotating globe. C noticed it for the first time this week and when I asked her what it was she said, "a green ball." Which was actually a very good guess. Later on when she told me it was a dinosaur so the first answer may have just been a lucky guess!

5. Sweet dreams and a growing garden...

Ryan's worked a couple of late shifts this week, and I've definitely missed his help at bedtime. Thankfully, these little people usually go to bed without a fuss and generally by 7:15 all is quiet.

All the alone time in the evenings has allowed me plenty of time to work in the yard and garden. This week I've harvested grapes (2 gallons and counting), tomatoes and cucumbers.

And enjoyed the most delicious tomato sandwiches for lunch. My favorite is goat cheese, cheddar, fresh basil, tomatoes, and plenty of Duke's mayo and Trader Joes Everything But the Bagel seasoning toasted on bagel thins.

Happy Friday!
