Bon anniversaire, Julia Child!

Today is Julia Child's 99th Birthday. I really didn't know much about Julia Child before reading Julia & Julie (and then watching the movie), but she does seem to have had a fascinating life. This past weekend I bought the book As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia Child and Avis DeVoto at Borders going-out-of-business sale. I think I have enough new reading material for a couple of years!

The cooking channel has a great recipe for her Pan-Fried Thin Burger on here and tonight there is a special episode of Chefography: Julia Child tonight at 8 p.m. (Eastern) on the Cooking Channel. Here's the blurb from the Cooking Channel's website:

With her unmistakably expressive voice, Julia Child invited everyday people into her TV kitchen and introduced them to exciting new ways of preparing food. Julia was not a natural born cook ... until one bite of a buttery French dish helped change everything. With passion, charm, and impeccable timing, Julia captivated generations of viewers and helped change the way we cooked.
