I've wanted to start a blog for several years but have been held up by two factors: a) my sweet husband refuses to be named or pictured in given blog and b) I know I will become over-obsessed with the thing and will ignore my writing and school work.
So to overcome both these factors I've come up the perfect solution--teach a class on blogging! You can't teach a class on blogging and not have a blog. That'd be like teaching someone to ride a bike and never having ridden one yourself. Factor A is no longer an issue since I've agreed to no pictures and to referring to him as Doc...his initials are DRP which is kind of ironic in that in four years he will be Dr. DRP, M.D. I've decided to ignore Factor B since I have six hours left on my master's and any writing has got to help all writing, right?
Blogging 101 is being offered through the Millsaps College Office of Community Enrichment. There are two sessions that are two nights each: Session I on April 6 &7 and Session II on April 27 & 28. Each session is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $60 and classes will cover how to create a blog, how to upload pictures, how to create a unique writing style and how to use social media to promote your blog. No prior knowledge needed! To sign up go to: http://www.millsaps.edu/_resources/author_files/enrichment_09_reg.pdf. If there's anything in particular you'd like to learn, send me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll make sure we cover it.
There are lots of great classes offered--art, writing, photography, dance, music, etc.--check out the full list at http://www.millsaps.edu/quicklinks/enrichment_series.php. I loved John Floyd's short stories writing class and DRP has taken the harmonica and Spanish classes.
